I'm not going to lie...I have been sitting on this review for quite some time and out of sheer intimidation. Gotham Bar and Grill is and will forever remain one of my favorite restaurants to dine at in NYC. I realize this is a bold statement, however, it's safe to say that Chef Alfred Portale has revolutionized modern American cuisine and has executed it so flawlessly that it would be extremely difficult for even the most talented of chefs to top! Make no mistake you will drop a pretty penny in this dining experience (it cost us $150 a head) but it's worth every single cent! You will not come upon a culinary experience like this that often and not many are capable or talented enough to provide it with such impeccable consistency.
At Gotham Bar & Grill you have a choice of ordering a la carte or you may decide to go with the chef's tasting menu ($110 limited availability). During lunch they offer a Greenmarket Fall lunch pre-fixe menu ($25) if you would like the experience at a fraction of the cost.
We decided to go a la carte...
Seafood salad ($21) Japanese octopus, scallops, squid, lobster and avocado
Cold smoked Tasmanian sea trout with baby fennel, celery hearts and meyer lemon pumpernickel croutons ($20)
Roasted Muscovy duck ($39) with a sweet potato, foie gras, kale and bacon sausage in a balsamic vinegar reduction
Truffle crusted Atlantic halibut ($38) Romanesco cauliflower, baby leeks and mushroom fricassee in a verjus emulsion
Look at the presentation of these desserts. Almost too pretty to eat!!
Our server's name was Daniel aka The Colonel and if you want the perfect dining experience you'll request him. He is a restaurant owners wet dream! His timing is impeccable and he possess complete knowledge of what he's selling. He made our evening a perfect one!
Didn't hurt that he brought us this complimentary plate of petite fours with our check. We were a little buzzed by now as you can see. High from the alcohol and drunk from this culinary love fest. :)
